“Ponniyin Selvan II” earns Rs.200 crore worldwide!

Ponniyin Selvan II, from the well-known director Mani Ratnam, has made Rs.200 crore at the box office around the world, the movie’s creators said on Tuesday. The second part of the period epic movie came out on April 28 in Tamil, as well as in Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, and Malayalam with subtitles.

ManiRatnam’s production company, Madras Talkies, shared the box office numbers on its official Twitter account. “The Chola name lives on! With 200+ crores, #PS2 takes over the world!” the message said.

Ponniyin Selvan II features Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prakash Raj, and others. It is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s popular 1955 Tamil novels with the same name.

With a reported budget of Rs 500 crore, this film is said to be one of the most expensive Tamil films ever made. It tells the story of Arulmozhivarman (Jayam Ravi), who was one of the most powerful kings in the south and went on to become the great Chola emperor Rajaraja Chola I.

The first part came out in September 2022. It was made by Madras Talkies and A Subaskaran’s Lyca Productions.
